I've been lucky enough to have access to an early proto type of the hw6915 for 2 weeks now.

I have used it every day for phone, email, surfing the net and navigation in my car.

So here are my thoughts about the device. I don't think it's fair to call this a review as the device is not shipping yet and I effectively have beta software on it.

However it is an announced product, so I'm happy to discuss it.

So my challenge I set myself was could I stop using my normal mobile phone, my other iPAQ with TomTom and Bluetooth GPS receiver and also could I cut down on laptop use.

So far it's been great, it does everything I wanted and then some! So how does it fair for the kind of things I've been doing?Email on the go? Unfortunately my company hasn't enabled push email on our Exchange servers, however once set up to sync every 15 minutes over GPRS has worked fine. I have set up 3 email accounts, one for Exchange, one for my IMAP private email and one for Hotmail. All have worked fine over Activesync, GPRS and WiFi.
HP's messaging software has integrated SMS, Email and MMS into one application which works well. The only downside I have found is that when someone sent me an SMS with a business card inside it, the application didn't know how to handle it.

The software HP have written around the ?WiFi network is very easy to use. If a WiFi network is broadcasting it is identified and "pops up" you can then choose to connect to it. I've connected to my home WiFi network, a few WiFI networks on my travels and also my company one. Each one has been really easy to setup, streets ahead of WiFi set up on older iPAQS.

The hw6915 includes TomTom and as I'm a registered owner of TomTom I managed to use my UK maps with the inbuilt software. All in all it works fine, however the bads news is that the much discussed lag from the hw65xx series is still present. I do have some hope that this can be rectified following this test

of the hw65xx by GPS passion. HP also include HP iPAQ Quick GPS connection software, which really speeds up the GPS acquistion and lock on time.So what happens when I'm driving and someone rings me? I got a Brodit mount to hold the unit in place in my car, and coupled with a Bluetooth headset it works fine. I can answer a call and TomTom is auto muted, but it keeps the navigation screen to the foreground so you can see where to go. Even cooler is the fact whilst it's dialling you can still here muted instructions through the bluetooth headset. The keyboard is much improved over the hw6515, the backlight lights the whole key, each key appears larger and flatter than the 6515. I have done some fairly lengthy emails and many SMS messages with no problems.

The screen seems fine to me, I haven't really noticed the fact its 240x240. I used the sync capabilities of Media Player 10 to copy some videos across, and everyone I've shown them to has been very impressed.

Battery life is better than I expected. I've spent days using the phone and WiFi and still has around 6% battery left. I've not had working day where I have run out of battery. ?Using GPS really eats the battery quickly though.HP have added a util to switch on/off bluetooth, phone and WiFi from the today screen. GPS is also on the same screen, but it cannot be manually switched on or off.

The HP Profiles application allows you to hold power and select a number of profiles. These are really handy, you can set the profile to switch any or all of phone, WiFi and Bluetooth on or off, change ringtones, volumes, vibration etc.

It's also pretty rugged. I was late for ?a meeting and running to my car I dropped the unit from around 3 foot up onto Yorkshire solid stone. It bounced a few times, and has a few scratches but has worked fine!

I've taken a few shots with the inbuilt camera when I was in Budapest recently, you can seem them below.

In summary it does all I want, one device for GPS, phone, email, browsing etc.

The downsides are the GPS lag and it's overall size, you certainly cannot shove it into your jeans pocket on a night out, but I don't view that as a major problem.

Some pics of the devices can be seen here , compared to a Sony p910i

Some pics I took using the hw6915 are shown below, they were taken in really poor overcast weather.
